Route Breakdown
The hike to Rainbow Falls is short and sweet—just a 0.15-mile trek to get up close to this stunning waterfall. The falls are flowing beautifully right now, and the trail is well-maintained, making it an easy walk for all packs. The area is rich with history, as it was once a stop for settlers traveling to Cripple Creek during the gold rush, and it’s a cultural spot for the indigenous Tabaguache Utes. The bridge under which the falls flow was built in 1932 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Bridges.
Why You'll Love It
Historic Significance: The falls have ties to the 1859 Pikes Peak Gold Rush and were a trail marker for the Utes.
Stunning Views: The waterfall itself is beautiful, and the surrounding area offers great views of the natural surroundings.
Short and Sweet: Perfect for a quick visit if you’re tight on time but still want to experience something special.
Dog-Friendly: The falls and shuttle are both dog-friendly as long as your pup behaves!
Snow's Take
I had such a PAWsome time visiting Rainbow Falls! The hike is super easy, and the falls themselves are gorgeous. The history behind the place is just as impressive as the view—did you know that the Utes used this spot as a trail marker? I even got to take the shuttle with my pack to the falls (but I had to mind my manners!). If you get a chance to visit, don’t miss it—just be sure to check the dates, because it’s open for only a few days in winter!
