Hiking Husky: Panorama Point – Lair o’ the Bear Park

Last hiked: 3/8/25

Looking for mountain views but want to avoid I-70 traffic? Check out Panorama Point. There are several ways to access this view point but my favorite route lets you hike along a river and pass a castle before reaching the view point. There is a mix of exposure and shade on this route which helps keep pups from overheating.

This trail is not too strenuous but gives you some exercise. Bikes use some of the trails on this hike so be ready to share.

Trail Overview

  • Location: Idledale, CO (Jefferson Country)

  • Distance: 6.66 miles

  • Ascent: 1,085 feet

  • Trail Type: Out-an-back & loop

  • Dog Rules: Dogs must be on leash

  • Cost: Free

  • Trail Conditions: As of 3/24/25, mostly clear with patches of snow/ice; human used traction for some downhills (likely clear now)

Snow's Tips

I recommend getting to the trailhead early. Although there is lots of parking it is a very popular park so spaces fill up quick. And while parking, remember to follow all the rules. It is not only respectful but there are often rangers patrolling. This trailhead does offer restrooms for humans, and plenty of trees to pee on pups.
