Last hiked: 3/23/25
When in Sedona, you have to explore the rocks! This hike wasn’t our original plan, but it turned out even better. After discovering our first choice trailhead didn’t open until 9 a.m. (much too late for a Snow pup to start a desert hike), we pivoted to the Mystic Trail Loop to Chapel Trail—and it checked every box we imagined a Sedona hike would have.
Trail Overview
Location: Sedona, AZ
Distance: 4 miles
Ascent: 600 feet
Trail Type: Loop
Dog Rules: Dogs must be on leash
Cost: Free
Trail Conditions: As of 3/23/25, clear
Route Breakdown
Our loop began at the Mystic Trailhead (no gate restrictions) and followed this path:
Mystic Trail to
Hog Heaven Trail to
High on the Hog Trail to
Broken Arrow Trail to
Little Horse Trail to
Chapel Trail
We ended at the famous Chapel of the Holy Cross and then walked along the road back to our starting point.
Why You'll Love It
Red Rock Formations: Towering sandstone cliffs and unique rock structures.
Desert Plants: Prickly pear cactus, juniper, and desert wildflowers.
Shaded Forest Sections: Pockets of pine and juniper adding variety.
Peaceful Trails: Surprisingly few crowds in the early morning hours.
Snow's Take
This hike had everything I wanted in Sedona: red rocks to sniff around, quiet stretches of trail, and big views! My pack says this was their favorite trail of the trip—and I think it might have been mine too.
