Last hiked: 3/24/25

Short trips mean you can't explore everything you wish. But, you can still make the most of it by exploring different areas. That is why my pack explored Sedona trails in different parts of town. This helped mix up the scenery.

Always remember when hiking in the desert (or anywhere) be prepared. In the desert you need extra water, as in, more than you think. We had extra and was able to share with overheated other over heated dogs who's pack didn't follow the desert hyration rule. Don't let that happen in your pack.

Trail Overview

  • Location: Sedona, AZ

  • Distance: 1.5 miles

  • Ascent: 355 feet

  • Trail Type: Out-an-back

  • Dog Rules: Dogs must be on leash

  • Cost: Free

  • Trail Conditions: As of 3/24/25, clear

Route Breakdown

Our loop began off Buena Vista Dr. We traveled:

  1. Tea Cup Trail to

  2. Sugar Load Loop to

  3. Sugar Loaf Summit Trail

Take note on your route. There are several intersecting trails in this area and multiple trailheads. You want to ensure to know your route. My pack encountered some lost hikers and lead the back to the trailhead so it all worked out, but you never know when something could go wrongand you don't want things to go wrong in the desert.

Why You'll Love It

  • Short: This trail is under two miles with minimal elevation.

  • Great views: Views look into Sedona as well as well-known rock formations.

  • Unique wildlife: Javelinas on this trail has be doing a double take. Not something I see in Colorado. But be careful, as they are not friendly. View from afar and never approach.

Snow's Take

This hike has amazing payoffs for how short this trail is. Seeing the well-known rock formations. everything I wanted in Sedona: red rocks to sniff around, quiet stretches of trail, and big views! My pack says this was their favorite trail of the trip—and I think it might have been mine too.
