Looking for a quiet, no-cost, scenic drive in Utah as an alternative to the crowds of Monument Valley? Valley of the Gods may be just the place for your pack.
This scenic area is known for unique sandstone formations. It is often considered a “Miniature Monument Valley.” Featuring a 17-mile loop drive, you can stick your head out the window of your ride to see towering pinnacles and isolated buttes. Some of the well known formations in the valley include Rooster Butte, Setting Hen Butte, and Lady in the Bathtub.
Park Overview:
Location: Southeast UT (between Highways 163 & 261)
Dog Rules: Dogs allowed, minimal leash rules
Cost: Free
Amenities: None - there is little support in this area, be prepared for no facilities, no gas stations, no stores, etc.
Tips
You can explore this area with a scenic drive, camping, biking, and hiking. The the road can be walked but my pack’s understanding is that there are no official trails outside of that. The BLM land is pretty wild and open, allowing you to camp and explore as you like. We saw several dispersed campsites with amazing views. It wasn't too busy when we were there but not sure in warmer seasons what it's like.
